We're looking for donations and deals!

Coast2Coast Team 10 have made some good progress in our fundraising efforts!
And we dedicate our recent progress to the contributions and supports from everyone around us.

The team is counting down 3 weeks to depart for Cambodia.
We are preparing our trip logistics and items for donation to the kids and staff in Peaceful Children's Home II.
We would like to share the current list with you, hoping that you could aid us in the collection by
  1. Coming forth to donate
  2. OR tell us who can possibly donate some of the items (friends, relatives)
  3. OR tip us off where to get this at reasonable prices (eg. wholesale markets, friends who are suppliers)
  4. OR any other ways beyond our current understanding. ha
Some items here are easily available anywhere in Singapore, and it shouts right out in our face how little we appreciate the ease we have with certain items of our lifestyle.

Project Coast2Coast 10 (C2C 10),
is the 10th Coast2Coast project which is under the umbrella of the Ayer Rajah-West Coast Citizens' Consultative Committee (AR-WC CCC). Project Coast2Coast (http://www.coast2coast.org.sg/) was initiated in January 2005, shortly after the tsunami.

It is a community-based overseas humanitarian expedition programme aimed at providing good overseas learning opportunities to local volunteers so as to inculcate in them a sense of public spiritedness, global social responsibility and also to enhance their inter-personal, project management and leadership skills.

Coast2Coast 10 consists of 19 people, ranging from students to working adults coming from different walks of life, each with own warmth character is  going to embark a project to Peaceful Children Home II which is located at Battambang province of Cambodia.

Beneficiary
Peaceful Children Home II is managed by the Khmer Foundation for Justice, Peace and Welfare.
Sheltering a total of 46 children - 24 boys and 22 girls in its two dormitories.
These children are victims of child trafficking, extreme poverty, abandonment, and decades of warfare.
Home II provides these children with Primary school, Secondary school and higher education.

Activities by C2C10 at Home II:
Refurbishment of the building structures with a new coat of paint with interesting murals and constructed pavement to connect the various buildings of the home, so that the residents of the home need not to walk through muddy soil grounds with hidden potholes to get from one point to another.

Instill children’s interest in different subjects via fun interactive lessons such as science experiments, Art & Craft lesson, sports games etc.

khmer language anyone?

http://www.answers.com/topic/khmer-language

For English speaker: pls say "ke-mair" (mair sounds like hair, or the sound sheeps make. ha)

For Khmer native speakers: pls say "ke-mai"
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t28709.html

which is right?
Both. *roll eyes*

Language consistency remains one of problems man face. The same tool, is a source of understanding, AND misunderstanding. And i'm not adding the unique contribution of para linguistics, an area of study of how non-verbal elements modify meaning and convey emotions, consciously or unconsciously. (eg, intonation of speech, pitch, volume).

In the 2 weeks we will spend at Battambang, making ourselves understood, and understanding others illustrates an area of increased demand on our existing levels/abilities. I personally believe that is so even when we can converse in simple English. What are the feelings and thinking accompanying these moments (and what do they mean?), and what do we do in response to challenges like these? How do others handle such issues?

Let's also consider what happens when you are facing increased load (various kinds), how does your normal response patterns to others change? *I would want to be out of the way when you snap, keke*

BTW, so who knows why Khmer is spelled Khmer! *will arrange a mystery prize. HA*

C2C10 Updates

C2C Battambang engine is gaining momentum. For the uninitiated, a little less than 3 months down the road from now, we'll be known as Coasters, like some of the ex-Coasters in our team. In the next 2 months or so, C2C10 Media Production Team will accompany you in creating endearing memories of our project.

As plans are being discussed and beefed up as we blog, here's a little teaser to keep you hooked. People in our team obviously believe in spreading love to others, as Jonathan will demonstrate in some of the pictures ahead. We love you too, Jonathan. HA.

Last but not least.
Scroll down all the way to the end of the page.
Fill up the schedule and attendance screener and "Submit"!
Cheers!
